One of the things I have struggled with are pimple scars. My pimples would come, but the remnants stayed. I would try creams, oils, and scrubs to get rid of the spots. One day, for health concerns, I decided to changed my diet to an alkaline vegan diet. I had the intentions of using the diet as a cleanse for my body, which is an entire different blog for another day. During this month, I realized the biggest secret to getting good skin. That secret is: It is not just what you put on you body, it is what you put in your body that matters.
So what is in the diet that is specific to clearing the skin? Many, many and many different elements. The very first thing with diet is that water is key. I finally developed the habit of consuming a gallon (and to to quite frank it was not always a full gallon but close to it in the beginning), and within about two weeks, my skin started to look healthier.
Aside from a heavy water intake, I was consuming vegetables and fruits more than ever. Given the diet, that only made sense. The fruits and vegetables contained water, which is a given. The important factor of the connections between fruits and veggies to the skin is that it contains antioxidants. The cool thing about this is that there are some foods that are considered to super antioxidants.
Here's a quick guide to understanding what the skin needs to maintain a healthy and youthful glow:
Betacarotene - found in carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, papaya and spinach.
Vitamin C - found in broccoli (not an alkaline vegan diet), blueberries, guava, kiwi, oranges, strawberries, and sweet potatoes.
Selenium - this can help prevent skin cancer and cure age spots. This can be found in Brazil nuts.
Vitamin E - Can be found in avocados, sun flower, almonds, hazelnuts, and pine nuts.
Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats – the types found in avocados, oily fish (non-vegan/vegetarians), nuts and seeds. This aids in clear and moisturized skin. If you struggle with itchy sensitive skin, I suggest adding more of this and vitamin E as well.
Omega-3 & Omega-6 - Okay so if you struggle with eczema and psoriasis, this can aide in inflammation and itchiness. If your vegan or vegetarian, taking a vitamin supplement will aid in this, or nuts, seeds, and oils. If you are not, I suggest oily fishes.
So now you have the secrets, I hope this can be added to your skin solutions! Watch out for the blog coming soon for the oils I did use during my cleanse, that also aided in the process of my dark spots fading! I hope this helps!!
